Three Drivers, One Big Opportunity: The Petersen Scholarship Winners Take on SoCal
· 5 min read
Earlier this year, three young female drivers were selected as the winners of the Petersen Automotive Museum Female Driver Scholarship, giving them the opportunity to race in the FAT Karting League Fall Cup in Southern California.
For Chloe Lee Adams, Brookley Yogi and Genevieve Hedges, the scholarship represents more than just another race weekend. It is a chance to gain experience, compete against new drivers, travel further than they have before and take another step towards their racing ambitions.
We caught up with all three drivers after arriving in SoCal to hear what the opportunity means to them and what they are hoping to achieve in the Fall Cup.
Chloe Lee Adams
At just 12 years old, Junior Light driver Chloe Lee Adams already has her sights set on building a career in racing.
When Chloe found out she had been selected for the Petersen Scholarship, her reaction was simple: she was “surprised and excited”.
“It means a lot to me because I really love racing and I really wanted to pursue my racing career.”
For Chloe, the opportunity is all about continuing to build experience and spending as much time as possible behind the wheel.
Her advice to other girls who want to get into racing is straightforward:
“Try to get as much seat time as you can.”
With the Fall Cup giving her the chance to race in a new environment and against new competition, Chloe now has another opportunity to put that advice into practice.
Brookley Yogi
For 11-year-old Cadet Heavy driver Brookley Yogi, winning the scholarship came as a genuine surprise.
“When I learned that I won the scholarship I thought it was a joke. I was so surprised.”
But the surprise quickly turned into excitement about racing in Southern California and showing what she has learned through four years of karting.
“It means a lot to me because I get to showcase skills I built over 4 years of karting.”
The trip to SoCal is also a first for Brookley and her family, making the opportunity particularly significant.
“This is our first time travelling far from home and I wouldn't have had this chance without a scholarship.”
Brookley has set herself a big target for the Fall Cup: earning her place at the World Finals.
And her ambitions extend well beyond karting. She dreams of becoming an F1 or NASCAR driver, with the ultimate goal of becoming a race winner at the highest level.
Her message to other girls entering karting is just as ambitious:
“Don't give up if you're slow, push yourself to the Max and you have a place in karting.”
Genevieve Hedges
Genevieve Hedges arrives in SoCal as the NorCal Regional Champion, having already demonstrated her pace and racecraft in the FAT Karting League.
Even so, finding out she had won the Petersen Scholarship was a shock.
“I was immediately very excited and definitely very grateful to be chosen.”
For Genevieve, the scholarship is another step towards her long-term goal of becoming a professional driver.
“Winning the Petersen Scholarship means a lot to me because it allows me to keep pursuing my goals of becoming a professional driver.”
The opportunity also opens the door to experiences beyond the racing itself. Genevieve is looking forward to meeting more people, making connections and gaining greater exposure to the racing industry.
Her focus for the Fall Cup is clear: get as much experience as possible before the World Finals.
“My main goal for the Fall Cup is to prioritise seat time and get race experience and really improve my race craft before going into World Finals.”
And her advice for anyone looking to enter motorsport?
“Remember why you did it and stay very true to yourself and just always love what you do.”
