We Are the Path to Formula 1
ยท 5 min read
Every Formula 1 driver started somewhere. For most, that journey began in karting.
At FAT Karting League, we believe the next generation of racing talent deserves a real opportunity to follow that same path.
Whether your child has never driven a kart before or is already competing at a high level, FKL provides a pathway to develop their skills, compete and progress through the ranks of motorsport.
And it all starts here.
Why We Founded FAT Karting League
Founded by former Ferrari Formula 1 engineer Rob Smedley, FAT Karting League was created with one mission: to make motorsport more accessible and discover the next generation of racing talent.

Traditionally, competitive karting has required significant financial investment, specialist equipment and industry connections. We wanted to change that.
FKL is a global outdoor, arrive-and-drive electric karting league for children aged 5 to 17, welcoming complete beginners through to experienced racing drivers.
We provide the karts, equipment and coaching, removing many of the traditional barriers to entering motorsport.
Our philosophy is simple: talent should determine how far a driver can go, not their financial background.
With events across the UK, USA and Germany, we're creating opportunities for young drivers to discover their potential and take their first steps towards a future in racing.
The Road to Formula 1 Starts Here
As Rob Smedley explains, every racing driver has to start somewhere. And no matter how far their journey takes them, karting is where the foundations are built.
At FKL, we've created a development pathway that supports drivers from their first experience on track through to competitive racing and beyond.
Your Motorsport Pathway
Step 1: Driver Development Days
Every racing journey has a starting point.
Our Driver Development Days are the perfect introduction to FKL, whether you're completely new to karting or already have racing experience.
Drivers get behind the wheel of our electric racing karts, receive expert coaching and develop essential skills, from kart control and racing lines to overtaking and racecraft.
With our Driver Development programme and Talent ID technology, every driver has the opportunity to learn, improve and discover their potential.

Step 2: Regional Championships
Turn your skills into racing experience.
Once drivers have developed the fundamentals, they can progress into our Regional Championships.
Designed as an accessible introduction to competitive motorsport, Regional racing gives young drivers the opportunity to experience the excitement of a championship, develop their racecraft and build confidence on track.
Step 3: Pro Championships
Take your racing to the next level.
For drivers ready for a greater challenge, our Pro Championships deliver a more competitive racing environment.
With full-power karts, structured race weekends and opportunities to demonstrate their ability, drivers can continue progressing towards the highest levels of karting.
Step 4: Talent Identification
Your talent. Your opportunity.
Throughout the FKL pathway, our Talent ID programme uses technology, performance data and expert insight to help identify promising young drivers.
Developed using Formula 1 engineering expertise, our Talent ID platform gives every driver access to tools designed to support their improvement.
It's about recognising potential, tracking progress and giving talented drivers the opportunity to stand out, regardless of their background.
Step 5: A Fully Funded Formula 4 Seat
From karting to car racing.
Our pathway doesn't stop at karting.
Through FAT Racing, we're building a route for exceptional young talent to progress into a fully funded British Formula 4 seat, taking the next major step towards professional motorsport.
And our ambition goes further, with plans to support talented drivers as they progress through the racing ranks towards Formula 1.
The Future of Racing Starts Here
Formula 1 may be the ultimate dream, but every great racing career begins with an opportunity.
At FAT Karting League, we're making that opportunity available to more young drivers than ever before.
From their first Driver Development Day to their first championship, and potentially all the way to Formula 4 and beyond, we're building a pathway where talent has the chance to shine.
We are the future of racing. We are the path to Formula 1.
